Fleeing the civil war in her native El Salvador, Maria Guadado received political asylum by the United States in 1983. Because of her political activity she had been kidnapped and tortured by the Salvadoran death squads. Maria reveals how she recovered from her personal horror and how she continues her life as a political activist and poet in Los Angeles. In March of 2000, Maria returned to El Salvador to participate in the grand march honoring that nation's fallen hero, Archbishop Oscar Romero, Along the way she returns to her hometown of San Miguel to revisit and reflect on her past.
